ASSIGNMENT: CCNY SIXTH DEMAND PSA and Final Presentation

It’s time to create the visual portion of the researched narrative project. A written text is great for some audiences, but other audiences prefer to watch! Tailor the content from your researched narrative into a short visual presentation. This presentation will be shown during your final presentation for the class so make it nice!!

Procedure:

  • Look at some samples. These PSAs were created by students in the spring 2024 semester of this class.
  • Choose a platform such as Canva, PowerPoint, or another platform. The PSA must be animated, not a series of slides. Canva is an easy platform to create a PSA on because there are thousands of free templates to choose from.
  • Watch this Canva video tutorial or this MS PPT video tutorial if you need instruction on how to create an animated slideshow.
  • Include a Works Cited list on the last slide of your PSA. The sources should also be used for your researched narrative. No need to find new sources although you can if you want to.
  • PSA format should be 1920 x 1080 pixels. (Horizontal-Full screen)

Did you remember to?

The criteria below will serve as my rubric. If all criteria are fulfilled, your researched narrative PSA will be complete!

  • include your name (Ex: “Created by…..”)
  • clearly express the purpose of the PSA
  • use images and text in an appealing way to underscore the purpose of the PSA
  • include a call to action on the final slide (Your Demand)
  • make sure the PSA runs for about one minute (50-70 seconds)
  • save (and submit) the PSA as an MP4 or M4V (for video files)
  • include citation sources for the photos and text you use in PSA
  • submit your PSA to BB

The Final Presentation

Basic guidelines for the presentation are:

  • Your final presentation should be 5-6 minutes long. Since we have a lot of students in the class, we need to keep the final presentations on the short side.
  • You should submit any media (slides or graphics) you’ll use for the presentation by SU Dec 8th. I need to have the media preloaded, so the transition time is minimal.

What’s the presentation on?

During the presentation, you need to talk specifically about your researched narrative topic and show the CCNY Demands PSA you created for this class.

However, when you’re speaking to an academic or professional audience, there is some information you should always include in your presentation:

First, introduce yourself! Tell the audience who you are and give a little information about yourself.

Second, tell the audience what you’re going to be talking about (a lot of presentations include a summary slide at this point)

Then, get into the presentation itself. You should always be aware of the time (remember, you only have 6 minutes), and you should have practiced! Practice really helps with presentation nerves. The more familiar you are with the content, the easier the presentation will be for you.

Rubric for in-person presentations

Fulfillment

Personal Introduction (10%)

The presenter introduces themselves and provides some information about who they. The information should be relevant to  the context (academic).

Content introduction (10%)

The presenter gives an overview of what they’ll be talking about during their presentation and provides a slide that accompanies the overview.

Content-Composition (50%)

The presenter provides a summary of and information about their experience with the researched narrative. You should also show the visual composition based on the written researched narrative.

Editorial (20%)

What did you think of the work you did in each class? This is an assessment of your own work process rather than a comment on the actual assignments.

Goodbye! (10%)

Generally speaking, a presenter will thank the audience for their attention and give some parting information or advice.
